By Jonas Jarlov

If the body system is under some sort of threat, cortisol and adrenaline hormones are released. These rouse the body and make it ready to take some emergency actions. The body is put under stress when its balance is upset or when someone feels threatened which is basically a physical response. But too much of it becomes harmful because it can cause damage to a persons quality of life, productivity, mood, their relationships and health.

This condition is dangerous because it can creep up on you. Those that have it might go on with their lives without noticing the effects it has on them because they get used to it. The sings and symptoms are quite varied. The body, mind and behavior are affected in many different ways and the experience is in every person.

The condition has quite a number of signs and symptoms. The more there are the more the overload. These are divided into four categories, emotional, cognitive, behavioral and physical symptoms. You should bear in mind that signs and symptoms can be caused by some other medical and psychological problems. When warning signs are noticed, its of utmost importance that you go see a doctor who will then conduct a full evaluation.

The overload has a limit which you have to know because if let unchecked it can cause quite some damage. Different people suffer different magnitudes. Some people are able to persevere but others can not they simply cant take it when they face the slightest frustration or obstacle. Others even tend to coup well when faced with challenges courtesy of the excitement it brings.

The ability to tolerate stressful situations depends on a number of factors. These are genetics, quality of relationships, general outlook on life, and emotional intelligence. The tolerance is also influenced by some things like a persons network of support. If one has some really supportive friends and family members who make up a strong network, they are at a better position of dealing with life stressors.

A sense of control also helps boost the tolerance level. Self confidence, ability to persevere challenges and influence events makes it easier to deal with stressful situations. Other things include a persons outlook and attitude, preparation and knowledge and ability to deal with emotions. The causing pressures and situations are called stressors.

The general opinion about stressors is that they are always negative for example an exhausting work schedule or a difficult relationship. However this is not always the case because there are those that make you adjust by force or demand you to do things and they are stressful too. Some of these positive situations include getting married, going to college, receiving a promotion or buying a house. Somehow stressors may also depend on how you perceive things. This means a situation or event that you think is stressful could be the opposite for someone else. A good example is being stuck in traffic which can cause tension and anxiety to one person and at the same time another person could be enjoying it as a relaxing trip which is perfect to hear some tunes.

External factors are not the only causes, they can be internally generated. This can happen through pessimism, self talk that is negative, perfectionism, uncertainty acceptance inability, lacking assertiveness and expectations that are unrealistic. Stress can exacerbate or cause a lot of health problems such as obesity, depression, autoimmune diseases, sleep problems, heart disease, pain of any kind, and skin conditions like eczema.
